59th Annual Almond Blossom Festival & Run

01/14/2021 By Kandee Aiton Leave a Comment

After much deliberation, the Ripon Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors have come to the conclusion that as much as we would love to host the 59th Annual Almond Blossom Festival and Run this February the circumstances are simply beyond our control and we are forced to cancel this event as we continue to comply with State, County, and City restrictions. We did not want to cancel yet another event and have attempted to find creative solutions to bring some kind of community event to Ripon during these unprecedented times; unfortunately, planning and executing any type of large scale event with a stay-at-home order in place and no end in sight has become an impossible task.

We know how much this event means to the community and our faithful vendors, so we appreciate your understanding as we look forward to planning for next year’s Almond Blossom Festival, February 25th-27th 2022

BAH Humbug! – Postponed to 2021

10/30/2020 By Kandee Aiton Leave a Comment

The City of San Ramon has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and reviewing recommendations provided by the State of California and Contra Costa County regarding large community events.  At this time, the City of San Ramon has determined that it is in the best interest and safety of our community to cancel the 2020 Bah Humbug! 5K & Kid’s Dash.  It was a difficult decision to make, but we believe it’s better to prioritize safety now so we can look forward to a great 2021 race season.  Our next race is the Run San Ramon 5K/10K & Fastest Mile scheduled for Sunday July 4, 2021.  For more information about future races, please visit www.sanramon.ca.gov/fitnessraces.

The Parks and Community Services Department is currently planning for the upcoming holiday season.  A few programs that will be announced in the coming weeks include a Virtual Concert on December 10th featuring Jim Brickman, Letters from Santa, and many more. Please follow us on social media and visit our website for the latest information for the upcoming holiday season in San Ramon.

Roanne’s Race Update

10/28/2020 By Kandee Aiton Leave a Comment

All of us at Roanne’s Race hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and staying safe. We know these are difficult times that have affected all of us, and ahead of any event, we hope that our community of supporters have been able to keep their health strong and their heads up.

The health, safety, and peace of mind of our participants is a top priority at Roanne’s Race. As such, the Roanne’s Race organizers have decided to further postpone the 8th Annual Roanne’s Race by moving it to a virtual event in March 27, 2021. While we are thrilled to be back on colorectal cancer awareness month, we are disappointed that we cannot all support this cause together on race day as we’ve done since 2012. That day will come back, and when it does we will be ready!

Stockton Run & Walk Against Hunger Goes Virtual

08/28/2020 By Kandee Aiton Leave a Comment

The 16th Annual Run & Walk Against Hunger, the single largest fundraising event for the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton & San Joaquin is going virtual this year.  The Thanksgiving morning tradition in downtown Stockton will be virtual due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Each Thanksgiving, thousands of participants converge on downtown Stockton to enjoy the 5k or 10k Run/Walk event prior to celebrating the holiday.  This year, participants can sign up for a 5k or 10k virtual experience and complete their walk during the week of Thanksgiving.  Contests will be held within the participants to encourage festive costumes and participation.

The Emergency Food Bank has experienced a dramatic increase in need during the pandemic, which means although we are unable to host the actual event, the need for the funds and support are greater than ever.

Registration is now open – runagainsthunger.org or https://runwalkagainsthunger.itsyourrace.com/register/

Roanne’s Race 2020

About Roanne’s Race

Roanne’s Race is a dream come to actuality in honor of Roanne Cairel. Before losing her battle with colon cancer at the age of 24, her friends and family told her they wanted to do something for her in her name, to honor her. She expressed that she wanted a 5K for colon cancer research, and they took that idea and “ran with it”.

Roanne’s Race is a 5K/10k run/walk event is postponed to November 7th, 2020.

All of the proceeds from the race will be donated to support the research of colon cancer, specifically among young people. Over our first six years we’ve been able to donate $50,000 to the Colon Cancer Alliance’s newly founded Never Too Young program, which researches, educates and supports young adults with colon cancer under the age of 50, all while putting on a race.

Our goal is to raise an additional $50,000 by 2022 that we will donate to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance research program for their efforts with doctors, scientists and researchers who are all working to end colorectal cancer.

This will bring our total donation to $100,000, and it will make a difference.
