SUMMARY:Mount Diablo Challenge
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the Mt. Diablo Challenge will be held on Sunday\, October 3\, 2021 and is dedicated to 86-year-young cyclist\, Joe Shami (photo right). His love of Mt. Diablo led him to climb it 600 consecutive weeks. It also led to his nickname “The Legend of Mt. Diablo.”  While we may have lost Joe this year when he was hit by a car while on his bike\, he will continue to serve as an inspiration to cyclists for years to come.  \nOctober 3\, 2021 will be the 38th year that Mt. Diablo State Park will close the road for this epic bicycle climbing event to benefit Save Mt. Diablo and the Mt. Diablo Interpretive Center.  The 11.2 mile\, individually-timed ride climbs 3\,249 feet to the summit of Mt. Diablo starting up South Gate Road. Mt. Diablo is one of the highest peaks in the San Francisco Bay Area with views of the Farallon Islands and the Sierras. The road is closed for safety and it is limited to 1000 cyclists.  The ride welcomes all ages\, abilities\, teams and bicycle types.  The first waves ascend without any descending bicycle traffic.  It’s a once a year opportunity to enjoy riding the mountain without cars. DESCRIPTION:Roanne’s Race Mission is to raise awareness of colorectal cancer as it occurs in people under age 50\, and those of all ages\, through an annual 5K/10K and kids run. Roanne’s Race is inspired by the life of Roanne Cairel. \nRoanne’s Race response to COVID-19 \nThe health\, safety\, and peace of mind of our participants is a top priority at Roanne’s Race. As such\, the Roanne’s Race organizers have decided to change the 8th Annual Roanne’s Race to a virtual event. While we are thrilled to be back on colorectal cancer awareness month\, we are disappointed that we cannot all support this cause together on race day as we’ve done since 2012. That day will come back\, and when it does we will be ready! \nEvent details and schedule-\nWhat should Participants expect with a virtual race? \nParticipants can enjoy their 5K\, 10K or Fun Run at their leisure! Choose your own route\, upload your own results\, and post your own photos from March 20 – March 31\, 2021 using the IYR App. Here you will find step-by-step instructions to download the app\, track your time and upload your finish time online. You also have the ability to manually upload your time. Participants will receive a completion certificate after the March 31st deadline. \nPacket Pickup!\nAll participants will receive a “packet” which includes a sweat-wicking cotton-like shirt\, a race bib\, and other Roanne’s Race goodies from our sponsors. \nThere are two options for packet pick-up: \n\nHave your packet mailed to you! For an extra $5 with your registration fee we will mail your packet to you\, no matter where you are in the country. King Jr. 10K/5K will now be a 7-day virtual walk from 1/9 – 1/16. Registrants can also utilize their treadmill! This 7-day Virtual Walk/Run Series will also act as our Social Distance Run Series presented by the NAACP Stockton Branch.  We are expecting over 1\,000 participants\, the Social Distance Run Series will become a huge success in bringing the running community together once again. \nHow It Works:\nSign up to receive a T-Shirt and medal and more perks that will be announced! After registration you will have access to the virtual race application.  The results will be posted live on January 16\, 2021.  You must complete the walk or run to receive the medal and t-shirt. \nYou will choose your path where you would like to walk/run during the time period\, and then you will submit your results to a live leaderboard to be ranked among others.
