The Annual Jail Break Run to benefit Special Olympics Athletes

Dublin – The runners have not passed the County Jail or Iron Triangle, negotiated the six switchbacks up the water tower hill or cruised through scenario village but training has begun. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team is preparing to set the pace as the runners begin the 5K/10K event with a lap around the Santa Rita County Jail. The City of Dublin will host approximately 500 runners and walkers at the Jail Break Run.

The event is coordinated by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office for Special Olympics Northern California. The Jail Break Run will be held at 8:00am on Sunday (see application for date) at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Center located at 6289 Madigan Road in Dublin.

Captain Brian Masterson of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office will be presenting awards to the winners of each category. The Sheriff’s Office expects more runners at this year’s event as this community event has grown from its humble beginnings in 2002.

Special Olympics of Northern California and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office have been making a major push to get more high school and college athletic programs to participate. The Sheriff’s Office has opened its Regional Training Center for this event, which has seen a strong family presence at the Jail Break Run.

USA Track and Field have certified both the Jail Break Run courses. Advanced race registration fees are $25.00 and day of event registration is $30.00. Registration includes a unique t-shirt. For fee information specific to this year's event , please see the application.  The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office believes that by utilizing different methods of community outreach to schools, colleges, health clubs, and media we can partnership with our communities to support Special Olympics Programs. Together, we can enhance the quality of life for our athletes by raising funds and public awareness of Special Olympics
